Getting your Deskcast back on screen
Everything here works with the screen and a phone. Nothing needs a cable or a computer.
Setting it up
- Plug it in. The screen shows SETUP and the name of a Wi-Fi network that starts with Deskcast-.
- Join that network on your phone. A setup page opens by itself: choose your home Wi-Fi and enter its password.
- The screen shows CONNECTED. If you bought it from deskcast.app it is already linked to your account and goes straight to your prices. Otherwise it shows PAIR and a code: see below.
The screen shows a code
It isn’t linked to an account yet: it’s new, or it was unpaired. On any phone or computer, open deskcast.app/p, sign in and type the code. The site shows a short confirm code; check it matches the one on the screen before you pair.
A code lasts 20 minutes. When one runs out, the screen shows a new one by itself.
New Wi-Fi, or it moved
It stays linked to your account. Only the Wi-Fi needs setting again. When it can’t find the network it knows, the screen shows SETUP and its Deskcast- network opens for 3 minutes. Join it and choose the new network.
Missed it? It restarts and opens the network again, as often as it takes.
It isn’t showing prices
Just after it joins Wi-Fi, the first few tries can fail. It retries within seconds, so give it a minute.
If it can’t reach Deskcast, it keeps what is on screen and keeps trying. It never forgets its account because of an outage, and it never needs pairing again because of one. Check that your internet connection works.
If one symbol never updates, check it on the screen’s settings page in your account: a symbol the market doesn’t recognise keeps the last screen.
Updates
They install by themselves. While one does, the screen shows SOFTWARE UPDATE and DO NOT UNPLUG, then restarts.
Every update is signed, and one that fails the check is refused: the screen shows UPDATE FAILED and keeps the software it has. If a new version can’t connect to Deskcast within 10 minutes, it goes back to the previous one on its own.
Giving it away, or starting over
To take it off your account, open your account and unpair it. The screen then shows a code, ready for whoever uses it next. It keeps its Wi-Fi.
To also forget the Wi-Fi, hold the BOOT button on the back for about 7 seconds. RESET appears after a second; keep holding until it restarts into SETUP. Let go early and nothing changes.
Resetting doesn’t remove it from your account. If someone else will use it, unpair it first, or they won’t be able to pair it.
